The Helsinki City Council announced plans to establish its own employment office by early 2025.
The new city agency will also provide services aimed at promoting the integration of working-age residents, according to a statement by the city.
The move is part of a nationwide reform whereby employment services will be transferred from the state to municipalities at the beginning of next year. As part of this reform, the City of Helsinki will become an independent employment authority.
The change will see 580 state workers transfer to the city, with some 700 people in total working to improve employment in the capital.
The number of people employed in Finland in January was roughly the same compared to last year, according to data published by Statistics Finland.
