FAQ

Regarding the steering boss

Q.What is the compatible part number for my car?

A.

You can check this page. Or you can contact us from this page.

Q.Can I replace a steering wheel with an airbag?

A.

Replaceable. Our airbag steering boss kit comes with a dummy harness for the airbag. With the dummy harness, you can turn off the airbag warning light. (Some vehicles may not have the airbag warning light turned off.

Q.Will my car pass inspection if I replace the steering wheel?

A.

Steering bosses are included in the steering hub and are an important safety component. Our steering bosses are compliant with Japanese vehicle inspection standards. For steering wheels, please contact the steering wheel manufacturer.

Q.Can I use the same steering wheel boss for the same model of car?

A.

If the vehicle is the same make, model year, vehicle type and equipment is exactly the same, it can be installed. If the model year, model year, and equipment are different, the shape of the vehicle may be different. Therefore, the application part number may be different. (Some vehicles may have the same model year, model year, and equipment but the shape may be different. In this case, you need to confirm the shape of your vehicle.

Q.Why doesn't the horn sound at all after installation?

A.

In the case of horn contact plate (brass plate) type vehicles, there are some vehicles where the horn does not work due to discrepancies in the dimensions of the vehicle. Please contact the dealer where you purchased , as countermeasure parts are available. (Countermeasure parts are not available for some vehicles. In that case, please stop installing them.) In the case of a coupler type vehicle, there is a possibility of a blown fuse or broken wiring in the horn. Please consult with a specialist (dealer).

Q.The horn stopped sounding after a while after I installed it. Is this due to malfunction?

A.

The horn may be damaged, such as a blown fuse or broken wiring. Please consult with a specialist (dealer).

Q.I want a steering boss for a car model that is not compatible.

A.

Custom-made steering bosses can be made to order. Please see this page for details.(Local customers only)

Q.Why doesn't the airbag warning light go off after installation?

A.

Be sure to disconnect the battery terminal terminals and work in a state where electricity does not flow.
Some vehicles will record an airbag error when working in an energized state.

1. Return to the stock steering wheel and make sure the warning light goes off.
(If the light does not turn off, please consult your dealer.)

2. Re-installation.
Make sure that the fused jumper wire (U-turn harness/airbag canceller) is securely fastened with insulating tape to prevent it from coming loose and causing poor contact.

3. Install the steering wheel and check the warning lights.
If the light does not turn off after performing the above tasks, it may not be possible to turn off the light due to variations in the vehicle.

Q.What is the position of the steering wheel after the replacement?

A.

It depends on the design of the steering wheel, but in the case of a flat type steering wheel, it is approximately the same position as the stock steering wheel. (Some cars may require a boss spacer.) If you wish to move it closer to the front, use the optional boss spacers.

Q.Can I still use the Auto-Cruise function if I change the steering wheel?

A.

The horn button attached to the steering boss for auto cruise vehicles can be used to operate the system. If you wish to use a different horn button, a switch kit is available (sold separately). (Auto-Cruise function may not be available on some vehicles.)

Q.What is the difference between a mechanical airbag and an electric airbag?

A.

The method of operation of the airbag is different. Mechanical type airbags do not use electricity to actuate and do not have any wiring. Electric types are controlled by a sensor/computer, so the wiring is connected to the airbag body and the warning light comes on when the ignition is turned on.
(It won’t come on if the warning light bulb is “out of bulbs”.)

Q.Can the steering boss for airbag vehicles be installed on vehicles without airbag?

A.

This is not possible because the shape of the car is completely different except for a few cars. Of course, the reverse is also true.

Q.What is the tightening torque for the center nut?

A.

Observe the tightening torque of 30N-m (3kg-m).
For details, please refer to this page.

Q.It has a rattle.

A.

Center nuts/bolts must be tightened to secure the unit. Check for looseness by tightening the center nut/bolt to the specified torque. Over-torque may cause the boss body to crack.

Q.The serrations (splines) don't fit or go in.

A.

The boss part number may be different. Please check the compatible part number.

Q.The boss does not go in deep.

A.

Please check if the indicator cancel pin/cam reaches the correct position after fixing the boss with the specified torque. If the indicator cancel pin/cam reaches the correct position and the indicator returns to normal, there is no problem with installation.
If the indicator cancellation pin/cam is in the wrong position or does not reach the correct position, the part number that fits may be wrong. Please contact the dealer where you purchased the product or customer service.

Q.The serrations (splines) do not engage enough.

A.

The serrations (splines) are for positioning the boss, not for fixing the boss. When the serrations (splines) are engaged, tighten the center nut/bolt to the specified torque to fix the boss and return the blinker to normal, there is no problem.

Q.How do I reset the HICAS rudder angle sensor?

A.

-Make sure that the windows on the body of the steering wheel are installed at the same angle as the windows on the boss body side.
-Check the straight line by driving under 60km/h after installation.
-Remove the negative and positive terminals of the battery and install the battery after one minute or more has elapsed.
(This will re-remember the linear memory.)
If the HICAS lamp does not turn off after the above work, please consult your dealer.

About the RAPFIX series

Q.Is RAPFIX compatible with Japanese vehicle inspection?

A.

RAPFIX is a product that complies with Japanese vehicle inspection standards and is therefore compatible with Japanese vehicle inspection.

Q.How far forward does the steering wheel come when RAPFIX is installed?

A.

The overall length of the RAPFIX is approximately 60mm. The steering is approximately 60mm shorter than with the standard boss installed. By using with the special short boss, the steering wheel can be moved 20mm-40mm closer to the column. (The length varies depending on the part number)

Q.Does it feel rattling?

A.

No rattle due to the ball lock structure. The rattle does not occur even under severe usage conditions such as competition. Please note that there may be some wear and tear on the connections depending on usage conditions or frequency of use.

Q.How about maintenance?

A.

This product is designed to be used without lubrication. The use of oil and grease will cause foreign matter to adhere to the product, which will greatly affect the life and operation of the product. In addition, the ball part is made of steel, which does not prevent corrosion completely, and the wear of the ball part may cause operational failure (snagging).
In order to prevent and deal with these problems, we recommend that you use a parts cleaner to clean the wear debris and apply CR-C or other lubricant to the ball part only with a cotton swab.
Note: Be careful not to apply too much oil and do not lubricate any area other than the bowl.

Q.How do I make a duplicate key for my RAPFIX Keylock?

A.

Please contact WB Customer Center with the part number of the key cylinder along with an image of your driver’s license to confirm your identity. We will arrange for your order after confirming your payment to the designated account. Please note that it will take about a month to complete the order.

Q.Can I install the steering wheel directly to the "RAPFIX short boss"?

A.

“RAPFIX short boss” are specially designed for RAPFIX, so they are not designed to be installed directly to the steering wheel.
