Cutting-Edge Research

Focusing on three pillars, Waseda University will elevate its cutting-edge research aimed at realizing carbon neutrality to the next stage.

In order to preserve a “sustainable world,” as envisioned in the SDGs, and to pass it on to future generations, Waseda University will promote diverse research activities for a carbon neutral society. In particular, we will focus on the following three points to further strengthen partnerships with universities, research institutes, policy-making organizations, and private-sector companies, etc. around the world.

Promoting a Fusion of Carbon Neutrality Humanities and Sciences Research

Waseda University will promote interdisciplinary research that fuses the humanities and sciences and takes a problem-solving approach, with the aim of realizing a carbon neutral society. In particular, we will work to create and utilize “comprehensive knowledge” that fuses knowledge from the humanities and social sciences, knowledge from the natural sciences, and experience/knowhow from the social sector.

Promoting Open Innovation that Transcends National Borders and Academia-Industry-Government

Faculty, researchers, and students across 13 academic faculties, 22 graduate schools, and affiliated institutions, etc. will work on academia-industry-government open innovation that transcends national borders while also taking advantage of the WASEDA Network of 660,000 people all around the world.

International Collaboration and Social Implementation of Research Results

With the research results we obtain, we will further accelerate social implementation activities such as policy proposals to government agencies and technology transfers to private companies. We will also collaborate with relevant organizations around the world to develop indicators for representing true “prosperity” by, for example, adding environmental evaluation standards concerning carbon neutrality to existing GDP indicators.
