About the U C Berkeley Script Encoding Initiative

The Script Encoding Initiative is a project in the Department of Linguistics of the University of California at Berkeley to help fund proposals for those scripts currently missing in Unicode (and ISO 10646). Established in April 2002, SEI has been a major source of new script proposals to the UTC.

The Unicode Script Ad Hoc Group, which reviews proposals (other than those for new emoji or new CJK characters) cooperates closely with SEI. The Unicode Consortium's online contact form may also be used to submit feedback on SEI proposals, which are listed on the SEI unencoded scripts page. Submissions to the contact form will be forwarded directly to SEI.

Linguists and script experts interested in contributing expertise or funding to the project, or wishing to review current proposals should visit the SEI home page, as well as the Pipeline page on the Unicode website.
