But the region – which is home to roughly 15 per cent of the world’s population as well as some of its most iconic species – has enormous potential for sustainable growth and environmental conservation.

  • About this office

The UNEP Regional Office for Africa is led by Senior Management Team under the leadership of the Regional Director and Representative for Africa Rose Mwebaza and the Deputy Director Fatou Ndoye.

UN Environment Programme, Africa Office, is located in Nairobi, Kenya. We also have sub-regional offices in Côte d'Ivoire and South Africa, a liaison office in Ethiopia and an office in Tanzania.

The Africa Office hosts the Secretariat of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), which was established in 1985 following a conference of African ministers of environment held in Cairo, Egypt.
