Kyoto Gion matsuri Uradeyama, mizuhiki

Detail Works Description

The Gion Festival Uradeyama Preservation Society (Kyoto City) requested us to restore and renew a mizuhiki. The original is an embroidered mizuhiki curtain made in the style of a poem anthology of the 2nd year of Tempo era, with the entire surface covered with gold thread, 36 poets embroidered in kiritsuke (cut embroidery), and a flowing poem script in the background. The background is embroidered with flowing poetic script. The design was painstakingly drawn and embroidered over a period of six years using the exact colors and detailed techniques used at the time of production.
