Short Biography of Vice-Chancellor
Dr Saleh Hasan Naqib, born in August 03, 1970, has been serving as a Professor at Dept. of Physics, University of Rajshahi, since 2011. He is leading the theoretical condensed matter research group at the Dept. In terms scientific productivity, his group ranks at the top in Bangladesh. This group has been consistently producing high-quality publications in the fields of computational condensed matter physics and superconductivity in cuprates. In these two areas Dr Naqib has been able to establish himself as the top researcher in the country. In fact, he is the most widely cited physicist in Bangladesh working on theoretical condensed matter physics and superconductivity at this moment. Dr Naqib obtained his PhD from Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, UK in 2003. He stood first both in his BSc and MSc exams. He had postdoctoral research experience both at the Quantum Matter Group, Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, UK and at the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, New Zealand. Dr. Naqib conducted research as an invited scholar several times during the period from 2006 to 2010 at the Quantum Matter Group, Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, UK. In recent years, Dr. Naqib has established fruitful collaborations with physicists in the UK, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Algeria, Turkey, Pakistan, and KSA, He considered as an expert on the pedagogy of physics education and teaching at university level. Dr. Naqib has published over 175 papers in SCOPUS indexed journals of international repute so far. His papers have been cited around 4750 times till date. Dr. Naqib has longstanding research collaboration with the Quantum Matter group, Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, UK and the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, New Zealand. He was awarded Regular Associateship of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (AS ICTP), Italy, for the period 2010 – 2015. He is a fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) and Bangladesh Physical Society (BPS). Recently he has been elected as a member of the TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences, Italy). He is only the fourth physicist from Bangladesh to obtain this coveted fellowship. Dr. Naqib is a life member and Fellow of the Bangladesh Physical Society, Institute of Physics, UK, American Physical Society, and Cambridge Philosophical Society. In recognition of his research excellence, Dr. Naqib received the TWAS award as a young scientist in 2008 and he was selected for the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) gold medal in the senior scientist category (2016). This is the highest award of the BAS. He is one of the very few in the country who has been selected for both the TWAS and the BAS research awards. Dr. Naqib received the Deans Award for research excellence for the years 2018 and 2021. He delivered numerous plenary and keynote speeches on cuprate superconductivity, strongly correlated electronic systems and computational physics at different conferences all over the globe. Dr. Saleh Hasan Naqib has been ranked among the top 2% of the scientists all over the world for the last four years (2021 – 2024). He is also acting as the member of the editorial board of a number of national and international scientific journals. Dr. Naqib is one of the foremost experts in science education and research pedagogy in Bangladesh. He was the head of the departmental Self Assessment Committee and acted as a subject expert to assess the functionalities of the leading universities in the country. Since 05 September 2024, he has been serving as the Vice Chancellor of University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh.
