Local partnerships celebrated at the 2024 Purdue Engagement and Service-Learning Summit

Hundreds of faculty, staff, students, and community partners from across the state gathered at the Discovery Learning Research Center to celebrate giant leaps in community engagement and local impact. The event included lightning talks, a networking happy hour, student engagement showcase, and awards. From enlightening talks to impactful projects, the event showcased the transformative power of collaboration and reflected Purdue’s commitment to community engagement.

Purdue Engagement Convenes Indiana Companies, Campus Partners to Beat Brain Drain and Build the Talent Pipeline

In 2022, Indiana managers posted more than 119,000 jobs seeking applicants with a college degree, but were only able to fill 39,000 of those positions. Responding to employer challenges in connecting graduates and open positions, the Purdue University Office of Engagement convened campus partners and Indiana companies at Build Your Boilermaker Pipeline, a daylong talent engagement strategy session.

Purdue launches broadband team, effort to increase high-speed internet access, adoption and use throughout Indiana

Purdue President Mung Chiang and Roberto Gallardo, Purdue vice president for engagement and director of the Purdue Center for Regional Development, announced on Oct. 9 the Purdue Broadband Team, which will help Indiana residents, businesses and leaders expand broadband access, adoption and use across the state.

Office of Engagement earns national top-10 recognition at Social Innovation Summit

Purdue’s Societal Impact Fellows Program received a top-10 nod at the 2023 Social Innovator of the Year Awards, competing alongside major corporations and global philanthropist organizations, including the U.S. women’s national soccer team, Audible and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.

Gallardo named Vice President of the updated Office of Engagement

Roberto Gallardo, director of the Purdue Center for Regional Development and an associate professor in the Agricultural Economics Department, will take on the role of vice president for engagement as the engagement office is elevated to the Office of the President, reporting to Alyssa Wilcox, senior vice president for partnerships.
