Network Architecture Laboratory
Research Overview
The Network Architecture Laboratory conducts research leading to the advancement of network architecture and fundamental technologies that are indispensable for the realization of innovative networks in the beyond 5G era.
Research Theme
Large-scale network control automation technology
The era Beyond 5G requires fast response to the provisioning of diverse services, efficiently transmitting time-variant traffic volume, detecting and recovering from communication failures, etc. It therefore requires networks to be enabled with mechanisms to fully automate their operation, which is becoming increasingly complex and going beyond the capacity of human operators. To achieve this, we are conducting research and development of technologies to improve efficiency and timeliness of the collection and aggregation of network telemetry data to meet the ever-increasing requirements of network services, and technologies that use heuristic approaches (such as artificial intelligence and machine learning) to adjust and control network and computing resources based on the collected network telemetry. Our research and development work are aiming at maintaining and improving the quality of network services and diverse user applications.
Router framework for deterministic latency
We are conducting research and development of a router framework that provides both programmability of in-network processing and deterministic latency to support the continuous addition and expansion of network services in a quick and flexible manner.
Information-Attribute Centric Communication Technology utilizing Distributed Information Management Mechanism
The network in Beyond 5G era consists of an ultra large number of computers.
We are conducting research and develop of a trustable network architecture that can provide network services reflecting the requirements of various "information attributes" such as trustworthiness, effectiveness, and responsiveness of the generated/published information on the network in Beyond 5G era.
Specifically, we are proceeding fundamental researches of network control technology and in-network computing technology that enable information provisions reflecting the requirements of various information attributes on the network in Beyond 5G era applying edge computing technologies, information-centric networking technologies, and distributed ledger technologies.
