NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) supports community college students seeking to transfer to a four-year institution or go directly to the labor force by engaging them in authentic learning experiences. Participants will take part in a five-week, self-paced online course introducing scholars to NASA missions and research surrounding space exploration, technology, and aeronautics research. The annual First Nations Launch competition offers student teams the opportunity to demonstrate engineering and design skills through direct application in high-powered rocketry. Teams are guided through the engineering process on one of three tracks (Gateway, Moon, and Mars) to design, build, and fly high-powered rockets. Notice of Intent Deadline: Dec. 9

The NASA-funded Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) is seeking proposals for its 2025 postdoctoral fellowship program, which supports early career scientists pursuing research with the potential to reduce the human health risks associated with spaceflight. NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Ohio is seeking applicants for a 10-week summer faculty fellowship opportunity. This program aims to enhance faculty professional knowledge and enrich the research and teaching at U.S. academic institutions by infusing NASA mission-related research and technology content into classroom instruction. Participants help to advance NASA’s mission by contributing to research, technology, and engineering work. Application Deadline: Jan. 12

NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia is hosting a weeklong, hands-on workshop to teach participants how to create a sounding rocket experiment from scratch and launch it into space. Participants will work in teams of three (two students and one faculty member) to build an experiment that will fly on a sounding rocket to an altitude of more than 70 miles. Registration Deadline: Feb. 14

NASA’s 2025 HuLC Competition asks student teams to develop innovative, systems-level solutions to potential problems, and mature advanced cryogenic fluid technologies that can be implemented within three to five years. Submission Deadline: March 3

As NASA prepares for future human space missions, there will be a need to consider how various waste streams, including solid waste, can be minimized. Developing ways to store, process, and recycle waste in a space environment will be crucial so that little or no waste will need to be returned to Earth. NASA’s LunaRecycle Challenge offers up to $3 million in prizes to design and develop recycling solutions that can reduce solid waste and improve the sustainability of longer-term lunar missions. Our solar system is made up of much more than the Sun and the major planets and their moons. Other small objects, including asteroids and comets, along with the pieces of them that have fallen to Earth as meteorites, provide important insights into the formation of our solar system. In this free course, you will learn about these objects and explore NASA missions, as well as jobs and hobbies, that gather information about them.

Celebrate 25 years of X-ray observations from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory by taking a virtual trip through objects in space. The new Instagram experiences use data from Chandra and other telescopes to give users a 3D view of the Tycho Supernova Remnant, the Vela Pulsar, the Helix Nebula, the Cat’s Eye Nebula, and the Chandra spacecraft.
