NASA Astronaut Mark T. Vande Hei
Mark T. Vande Hei was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2009 and most recently served as a flight engineer on the International Space Station as part of Expedition 65 and 66.

While an Army officer, he served two combat tours in Iraq, one as a combat engineer, the second as a space operations officer.
Vande Hei has spent 523 days in space and conducted four space walks totaling more than 26 hours.
Born in Virginia, then raised in New Jersey and Minnesota, Vande Hei earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Saint John’s University and a Master of Science in Applied Physics from Stanford University.

(18 October 2019) From the Mission Control Center in Houston, veteran NASA astronauts Stephanie Wilson and Mark Vande Hei are on the CAPCOM (capsule communicator) console monitoring the spacewalk being conducted by Expedition 61 Flight Engineers Christina Koch and Jessica Meir. Wilson provided robotic arm support maneuvering spacewalkers during the STS-120 and STS-131 space shuttle missions to the International Space Station. Vande Hei conducted four spacewalks totaling 26 hours and 42 minutes during his stay aboard the orbiting lab as an Expedition 53-54 Flight Engineer.
(4 May 2021) NASA astronaut and Expedition 65 Flight Engineer Mark Vande Hei works inside the Life Science Glovebox (LSG) for the Celestial Immunity study that may provide insights into new vaccines and drugs possibly advancing the commercialization of space. The LSG is located in the Kibo laboratory module from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.
