What did you think of The Atlantic article on the struggles of urban families? The role of children and how it forces (negative) outcomes in housing and community is perhaps the biggest issue facing the built environment right now. #theatlantic #urbanfamily #progressives #urbandesign #sustainable #builtenvironment #housing https://lnkd.in/erYX4ND6

On Thursday, August 8th, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced policy changes that will "help more veterans receive assistance under the HUD-U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program, removing VA benefits as qualified income that could cause some veterans to exceed the threshold for programs. The New York Times recently published a report on what Los Angeles has done to decrease veteran homelessness: https://lnkd.in/dbhgHCYP Swailing will release research later this year on what Los Angeles did so successfully and what other municipalities can do to find success in supporting these populations through innovative solutions. #veterans #homelessness #losangeles #hudvash #veteransaffairs

#masstimber has becoming increasingly synonymous with sustainable building. That is a wonderful development but only if we keep in mind how the wood is generated. If you've built a mass timber project, do you know where your subcontractor sourced their wood? Are they committed to the site's sustainability? "But more than a century of intensive logging and development in Oregon, followed by replanting with tightly packed Douglas fir trees and years of stopping fire at all costs, has laid the groundwork for a present and future of fires that are bigger, hotter and moving faster." #sustainablebuilding #greenbuilding #swailing https://lnkd.in/eurdBuf2

This Mexico City story offers the rationale why Swailing exists. Not only a government problem. Not only a private-sector problem. Not only a climate program. And these tough problems...more or less common, do you think? https://lnkd.in/dcT6zD6f #mexicocity #swailing #watershortage #climate #mexico #startup
