Robert J. ("Bob") Troester has served as the United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma since March 1, 2021.  He serves by appointment of the United States District Court. As United States Attorney, Mr. Troester is the chief federal law enforcement officer responsible for all federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation involving the United States in the Western District of Oklahoma, an area covering 40 counties that also includes 21 federally recognized Indian tribes. He leads a staff of more than 90 attorneys, support personnel, and contractors to accomplish this mission.

Mr. Troester joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 1995 and has handled both civil and criminal cases.  Since 2002, he has held various management positions in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including Acting U.S. Attorney on four prior occasions, First Assistant U.S. Attorney, Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney, and Chief of the Civil Division.  He has also served the Department of Justice in Washington D.C. as Associate Deputy Attorney General and Sr. Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General from 2017-2018, Deputy Director of the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys (EOUSA) from 2001-2002, and EOUSA’s Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) Coordinator from 1999-2000.

In 2020, Mr. Troester served as Chair of the Victim Services Working Group for the President Trump’s Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice.   From 2021 to 2024, Mr. Troester served on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee (AGAC) Violent and Organized Crime Subcommittee, White Collar/Fraud Subcommittee, Native American Issues Subcommittee, and Office Management and Budget Subcommittee.  From 2018-2019, he served as the Vice-Chair of the AGAC Civil Rights Subcommittee and Vice-Chair of the AGAC Health Care Fraud Working Group.  From 2005-2007, Mr. Troester was appointed by the Attorney General to a three-year term as the sole career member on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee.  Mr. Troester currently serves on the Executive Council for the Oklahoma Federal Executive Board. 

During 2011-2012, Mr. Troester worked with the DOJ Criminal Division’s Overseas Prosecutorial Development Assistance and Training (OPDAT) office and the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, Moldova, to travel to Moldova on several occasions where he conducted an assessment of management and training needs for Supervisory Prosecutors in the Moldova Prosecutor General’s Office, helped develop specialized training for Moldovan supervisory prosecutors, and assisted the implementation of the training program in Moldova.

Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Troester worked in private practice in Oklahoma City, in state government at the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, and in local law enforcement at the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office in Kearney, Nebraska.

Mr. Troester received his Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law and his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
