Michele Beckwith

Michele Beckwith is the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California.  She served as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney from 2022 to 2025, and prior to that she was the Criminal Division Chief from 2019 to 2022.  She also served as the Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney from 2016 to 2019, working with the U.S. Attorney and First Assistant to manage the office while also overseeing its media relations, community outreach, and reentry programs.  She joined the office in 2010 as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Special Prosecutions Unit, where she prosecuted sex trafficking, child exploitation, and fraud offenses, among others.  Before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office, Michele clerked at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. She has worked in private practice in California and Ohio, and she graduated from Ohio University, summa cum laude, and from The Ohio State University Moritz School of Law with honors and as a State Department Fellow in Czech.
