For whom are civil engineering qualifications?
“You should get a qualification.” It is probably the most common phrase you hear at work. But why should you attain qualifications? Qualifications in the civil engineering industry are not occupational licensing, and obtaining them is not mandatory for an engineer. Then, what are the qualifications for? For example, consulting firms recommend you to achieve one because it is a requirement for them to have qualified engineers. Some may acquire one for self-improvement and career advancement. On the other hand, there are issues that the Japanese qualification systems possess. They are not well recognized by the public. Most of the engineers’ qualifications are not internationally compatible. They are difficult for foreigners to obtain because the examination is designed only for Japanese native speakers. This issue introduces articles on the significance of qualifications, how to utilize them, and what they mean to each author. We hope that you consider what qualifications mean to you. We would also like you to think about “for whom” you want to obtain qualifications and “for whom” you wish to utilize them.
