Job Description

  • This position is for College of Integrative Studies (CIS / IPCC Working Group II Technical Support Unit).
  • Manage and oversee all operational and logistical aspects of the TSU.
  • Provide operational support for the activities and products of Working Group II during the Seventh Assessment cycle.
  • Work closely with the Co-Chairs and Bureau of Working Group II to shape and guide technical and logistical aspects of the assessment.
  • Develop and manage operational aspects throughout the scoping, preparation, review, and completion of reports.
  • Coordinate the editorial and production aspects of report preparation, including drafts compilation, copyediting, typesetting, layout, and proofing for publication.
  • Lead the operational and logistical organization of international meetings and sessions of the Working Group.
  • Manage the finances of the TSU and oversee the planning of the unit’s annual budget.
  • Supervise volunteer and temporary staff, as well as all operational, administrative, and technical staff within the TSU.
  • Liaise with the Heads of Operations of other TSUs to promote coordination and knowledge sharing.
  • Engage in the IPCC Operation’s Action Team, likely involving contributions to operational strategies and initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a related field of study and at least 12 years of relevant work experience after conferment of first degree.
  • Experience in managing international projects and leading multi-cultural teams;
  • Developing, planning and executing complex multi-task workloads;
  • Planning and organizing international meetings;
  • Preparation and publication of scientific or technical reports;
  • Finance management and budget planning.
  • Excellent oral and written English.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact with the international science community.
  • High degree of stress-resistance and capacity to work to deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with UN processes, in particular IPCC, would be an asset.

Candidates who do not possess the stipulated qualifications but have relevant work experience may still apply. Remuneration and appointment terms shall commensurate with qualifications and experience. SMU reserves the right to modify the appointment terms where necessary.
