GBMC Standard Hospital & Physician Charges

Pursuant to its Fiscal Year 2019 Inpatient Prospective Payment System Final Rule, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) requires all hospitals as of January 1, 2019, to make public their lists of standard charges on the internet. The type of file posted here is commonly referred to as the hospital’s “chargemaster,” and CMS has indicated that information from the chargemaster will satisfy this requirement. GBMC is publishing information from its chargemaster to comply with this requirement and provide pricing transparency for patients.

The hospital rates in Maryland differ from those in other states because all Maryland hospital rates are established by the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission (“HSCRC”), a state regulatory agency. More information about the HSCRC can be found at the HSCRC website. GBMC’s charges are the same for all patients, but a patient’s financial responsibility will vary depending on factors such as the patient’s insurance or other health care payment coverage and utilization of services (e.g., duration of surgical procedure or length of stay).

The below information is a representative list of common procedures performed at GBMC and an estimated average cost based on recent patient experiences. In addition to posting price estimates for common procedures, GBMC also offers the ability for prospective patients to obtain pricing estimates via individual requests. GBMC's Patient Financial Services Department is available 7:00am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday at 443-849-2450 to provide charge estimates for services provided by the hospital. Please note that these estimates are for hospital only services and do not include the services provided and billed for separately by a physician or advanced practitioner.
