Over 100 Years of Fitzbillies
In 2020 Fitzbillies celebrated its 100th birthday. Founded in 1920 by Ernest and Arthur Mason, using their ‘demob’ money from the First World War, their initials are still visible in worn-out gold letters on the shop front. Alison Wright and Tim Hayward are the custodians now, with a thriving café behind the cake shop in Trumpington St and a coffee shop on the corner, a second branch in Bridge St and a larger bakery making artisan bread as well as the cakes and Chelsea buns.
Amazing food. My partner and I visited at the start of our tour and initially were going to have the afternoon tea, but instead went for the brunch options; the full English and veggie breakfast, both of which were really flavoursome.
Stumbled across this place and so glad we did! We didn’t realise there was so much history of this cafe in Cambridge, so it was lovely to read about it on the table and on the walls.
Stopped here for lunch while we were doing a treasure hunt round Cambridge. I had full English, wife had Shakshuka. Both really good. Totally recommend the Chelsea Buns! Great place with loads of history
Popped by for brunch with my son. Not too long to wait for a table, and fast service once inside. Always love the menu here and the atmosphere is great. lovely staff and super food - pancakes and eggs royale!
