When the entire world was reeling under the throes of the COVID 19 pandemic that brought the daily movement to a screeching halt, the biggest conundrum for governments across the world was to ensure seamless testing for its citizens. As evidenced by history itself, such events of turmoil have turned out to be opportune moments for innovators and visionaries. Ric S Kolluri is one such visionary who rose to the occasion and aspired to provide contact-free COVID-19 testing provision to the masses.

In 2018, Ric S Kolluri, laid the cornerstone for BitCare with a 96-page whitepaper on securely sharing healthcare data across all the ecosystems patients, hospitals, and insurance companies using Blockchain. After almost a year of traveling and engaging with different organizations, developers, and blockchain experts; Ric decided to pivot the company’s efforts into genomics with his mentor and advisors’ help, JR Thomas and Hirav Shah. To that end, he developed a genomics platform that gathers patients' information, thereby helping healthcare providers with actionable data sets. "We started our platform with 11 flagship DNA-based products in several categories such as Nutrigenomics, Pharmacogenomics, and Cancer genomics. The DNA tests include Health, Sport, Diet, Exercise, Estrogen; Pharmacogenetics, Addiction and Behavior; ALS, Dementia, Parkinson’s Alzheimer’s and Opioid Risk DNA Test," mentions Ric.

Successively, in March 2020, when COVID-19 disrupted the entire healthcare landscape, Ric decided to use this knowledge to deliver contactless RT-PCR, Rapid tests for clients. After almost two months of research and help from Jags Porandala and Dr. Jason Finkelstein, he overcame several hurdles and arrived at a solution to automate the entire process, including the aggregation of forms, patient information, and other data to ensure a complete touchless experience for the patients. Subsequently, BitCare launched its first COVID testing facility in Texas. "We had almost 69 locations, different pop-up clinics in almost 14 different states at the peak of Coronavirus," says Ric.

Alongside DNA testing, BitCare also offers gut microbiome tests, allergy tests, wellness tests, and telemedicine services today. Additionally, to fight the menace of mental illness, BitCare is introducing mental health services on its platform. "We offer our telemedicine services in four U.S. states and are planning to launch it nationwide this year," informs Ric.

Guided by his research acumen, Ric believes that the future of healthcare should be preventive care. Hence, the company is planning to add relevant data-sharing features on its platform in order to make healthcare data accessible to the patients as well as healthcare providers. "We'll have a new release by June where any patient can plug in almost 17 different devices such as Fitbit, Apple Health, and more and share their real-time healthcare data," mentions Ric. With real-time data, the company is planning to leverage AI to alert healthcare providers upon detecting any anomalies among patients. More importantly, the BitCare platform will also enable all the patients and other authorized parties to avail their healthcare data at their discretion. "We want to make all the data accessible to the patients, and then offer telemedicine services if they have any questions for a holistic, preventative, and transparent health system," states Ric.

Moreover, to propel preventive care further, the BitCare platform will soon utilize algorithms that would take into consideration critical parameters such as genomic history, social, and sentimental history to predict healthcare outcomes for the patients. "We will offer low-cost lab tests, enabling patients to see how they are doing every quarter or every six months," says Ric. Also, as patients oftentimes use search engines to gather information pertaining to different ailments, the BitCare platform would soon feature validated information by doctors and researchers to help patients on the go.

In the next phase, BitCare is planning to implement Blockchain on its platform to help patients store and share their healthcare data with more security. The company is also aiming to open more than fifteen clinics across the U.S., in turn, helping patients avail healthcare according to their preferences.
