Women ICT Freelancers Entrepreneurs Development Program

Partners: Bangladesh Women in Technology (BWIT), Aspire to Innovation (A2i) under ICT Division and SME Foundation.

  • Funded by: Ministry of Women Affairs.
  • Women ICT Freelancers Entrepreneurs Development Program' implementation was held in all 64 district and total 150 Training Programs were held the total funding of Tk. 8 Crore 52 Thousand from the Entrepreneurship Fund.
    • 22 Trainings arranged under City Digital Centers(11 Districts).
    • 128 Trainings arranged under Poura Digital Centers(53 Districts).

Training on Women and ICT Frontier Initiative' (WIFI)
  • WIFI Launched in 2016in South Korea and Bangladesh BWIT represented Bangladesh. On 2007 Bangladesh Computer Council under ICT Division, UNESCAP, BWIT and BIID inaugrated WIFI Training Program jointly.
  • The United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT), a regional institute of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), launched the ‘Women and ICT Frontier Initiative’ (WIFI) on June 9 at the Regional Forum on ICT Human Capacity Development in Incheon, Republic of Korea.
  • WIFI aims to create socially and economically-empowered women through ICT-enabled entrepreneurship, supporting women entrepreneurs by enhancing their knowledge and skills in business management and ICT usage. The initiative also aims to strengthen the capacity of government leaders and policymakers to create an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs through gender responsive policies, programmes and services.
  • Implementation and module preparation by BIID and BWIT to scale up the initiative to build Smart Bangladesh and empower women entrepreneurs with digital skills.

Received Australia Awards Fellowship University of Southern Queensland
  • Australia Awards Fellowship Application for Round 16, titled Empowering Women through Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation in Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri-Lanka has been successful! The grant had been paid for the costs associated with the return flights from Dhaka, Bangladesh to Brisbane Australia, flights within Australia and fellow’s accommodation costs in Australia.
  • Participants from seven organisations in Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka will partake in the program. These organisations are:
  • From Bangladesh:
    • Bangladesh Women In Technology (BWIT);
    • Centre for Entrepreneurship Development – BRAC University;
    • Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI);
  • From Nepal:
    • Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Association Nepal (FWEAN)
    • Women Leaders in Technology (WLiT);
    • Industrial Enterprise Development Institute (IEDI)
  • From Srilanka:
    • Women Chambers of Industry and Commerce (WCIC)
  • The fellowship will provide an opportunity for nominated fellows to engage in a 3-week capacity building program in Australia. The course content will endeavor to provide an innovative and comprehensive program that brings together academic rigour, industry workshops and meetings with entrepreneurial leaders in Australia. The program commences on 8 May 2017 in Brisbane.
