Wikitech:Administrators
An Administrator is an editor who has the extra ability to:
- Block and unblock other users
- Delete and undelete pages on the site
- Protect and unprotect pages
- Edit pages in the MediaWiki namespace (e.g. MediaWiki:Sidebar)
- View deleted edits of a page
- View any contributions by a user to pages which are deleted.
Stewards and global sysops should feel free to deal with vandalism and similarly routine and uncontroversial things, if necessary (Note: These are global groups defined by the CentralAuth extension and don't appear at Special:ListUsers, but at Special:GlobalUsers).
Before the SUL migration of wikitech in November 2024, there was contentadmin which was identical to this group (except they lacked editinterface, preventing edits to MediaWiki namespaces). It existed because wikitech had special LDAP connection controlled by administrators. During the migration, LDAP control was unbundled from admins, and contentadmin group was merged into the administrator group.
