The ASU Disability Resource Center is pleased to announced that we have changed our name to Student Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Services. A new website reflecting the name change and vision for the office will be launched soon, but our commitment to ensuring accessibility and inclusion for the Sun Devil community will continue through this transition.
While ASU classes continue to be offered online, Student Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Services remains fully committed to support students with disabilities.
SAILS staff will continue to be available remotely. If there is an accessibility concern related to your course, regardless of how the course is being delivered, please contact your Disability Access Consultant (DAC). They can be reached in a variety of ways including: email, phone, or Zoom conference. As usual, you will be able to call us at 480-965-1234 or email us at DRC@asu.edu.
Your Disability Access Consultant will continue to be available remotely. Appointments will continue and will be conducted online or by phone. If you have questions or concerns, please email or call your Disability Access Consultant.
If you haven’t used SAILS services previously but feel you may need to, you may register with our office using the New Student Application. Disability Access Consultants (DAC) can conduct your intake by phone or Zoom meeting. If you are already registered with SAILS, call your DAC to discuss changes to your accommodations for this new setting.
Accommodations will continue to be administered as you continue to attend classes regardless of format. Your DAC will continue to be your primary point of contact for accommodation needs. You can request your accommodations the same way you have previously through DRC Connect.
If exams are being administered online, then students will access the exams that way. In some cases, if classes are still being offered in the classroom, SAILS will work with students and faculty to ensure the student has reasonable accommodations to take their exam. Faculty and students may consult SAILS to help determine what accommodations are needed.
On your MyASU course schedule, a REMOTE ACCESS link for Zoom will appear for each class. Some faculty are providing a link through Canvas. You may need to check both and confirm with your instructor for the correct link. For most cases, Zoom will be the means for faculty to deliver course content. This link will connect you to the class. Click the link at the time of your class. If you have not used Zoom before view the Zoom Student Guide.
Access to the Zoom environment will be available through an Access Remotely link on MyASU or in your Canvas course. The Provost’s page has information on Remote Access for courses here (https://provost.asu.edu/remote/students). The Zoom guide for students is linked on that page with useful tips for Zoom use. Freedom Scientific offers JAWS and Zoom, a Lesson on Learning available from their site in both MP3 and MP4 formats. There is also a list of Zoom Commands available on the Freedom Scientific page. Your animal is an extension of you and ASU policies still apply. Be mindful of where you are taking the animals and practice good hygiene of washing your hands after being in contact with your animal.
