To define the criteria for off-campus agencies to participate in the Federal Work-Study Program through the university

Policy

[horizontal rule]

To participate in the Federal Work-Study Program (FWSP) through the university, off-campus agencies must:

  1. be federal, state, or local public agencies or submit current copies of the IRS verification for private nonprofit, tax-exempt status
  2. employ FWSP students only to perform functions and provide services that are in the public interest
  3. be reliable organizations with professional direction and staff that ensure that the work to be performed is adequately supervised
  4. not employ FWSP students for construction, operation, or maintenance of any part of a facility that is used or may be used for sectarian instruction, religious worship, or any partisan or nonpartisan political activity (associated with a contending faction or group in an election for public or party office or any lobbying on the federal level)

    and

  5. not displace employed workers or impair existing service contracts as a result of employing FWSP students.

FWSP students are prohibited from working for the Department of Education due to the potential appearance of a conflict of interest.
