To participate in the Federal Work-Study Program (FWSP) through
the university, off-campus agencies must:
- be federal, state, or local public agencies or submit current
copies of the IRS verification for private nonprofit, tax-exempt
status
- employ FWSP students only to perform functions and provide
services that are in the public interest
- be reliable organizations with professional direction and staff
that ensure that the work to be performed is adequately
supervised
- not employ FWSP students for construction, operation, or
maintenance of any part of a facility that is used or may be used
for sectarian instruction, religious worship, or any partisan or
nonpartisan political activity (associated with a contending
faction or group in an election for public or party office or any
lobbying on the federal level)
and
- not displace employed workers or impair existing service
contracts as a result of employing FWSP students.
FWSP students are prohibited from working for the Department of
Education due to the potential appearance of a conflict of
interest.
