Archetypes based development (ABD) utilizes archetypes and archetype patterns to increase dependability of software, reduces semantic heterogeneity of models and data types, improves maturity of the software development process, leads development of one-off software towards software factories, as well as satisfies the needs of small and medium sized software houses. ABD uses Zachman framework (ZF) for enterprise architecture in combination with business archetypes and archetype patterns as a central idea for the engineering of domains, requirements and software. We explain the ABD and evaluate it from the Bjørner's domain modelling, MDA (Model Driven Architecture), XP (Extreme Programming) and CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) for Development perspectives.
