Abstract

In this paper, we propose a novel pile-up rejection algorithm using multiple-template for MWD (Measurement While Drilling) which is very useful in underground localization of drilling devices. Conventional peak detection algorithms that are based on cross-correlation use only a template signal in the peak detection. However, if two peak pulses pile-up too closely, the conventional methods will recognize them as a single peak pulse. If the pile-up signals are recognized as a single peak signal, the false peak information will be given. To solve this problem, we additionally use a template signal that consists of two overlapping peak pulses to detect peak pulses that pile-up closely. We confirmed our algorithm by using actual output data from amplifier connected to a scintillator.
