Abstract
This article describes work on developing a virtual coach for assisting older adults in their everyday activities and in particular, for maintaining their well-being and healthy life. The work has been carried out in the context of the collaboration project e-VITA EU-Japan Virtual Coach for Smart Aging. The goal of the project is to prototype virtual coaches to sustain older adults’ well-being in smart environments, to develop standards and norms for the component interoperability, and to conduct a proof-of-concept study to assess user-acceptance in real-life environments. Our focus is especially on the interaction aspects enabling the users to conduct dialogue interaction with the Virtual Coach and the integration of various system components into a federated AI platform which supports the development of the Virtual Coach.
