A Taxonomy of Implementation Factors for Collaboration Technologies

Abstract

The review in Chapter 3 presented a selection of studies on the implementation of different collaboration technologies in various organisational settings. The degree of success in these cases varied, and several of the studies reported problems related to deployment, adoption and use of the technologies. A wide range of factors influencing these implementation projects were identified. This chapter presents a simple taxonomy for categorising these factors, thus preparing the ground for the field studies presented in Part 2 of the book. The reader may then apply this taxonomy when interpreting the experiences and lessons learned presented in these studies. The same taxonomy is also used as the basis for the cross-case comparison and integration of lessons learned in Part 3 of the book (Chapter 11).
