Abstract

For applications, where some of used data is complex structured and some of data is simply structured, we can use an object-oriented DBMS but the processing simply structured data also will also use the overhead of OODBMS necessary for processing complex structured data. This decreases the efficiency of the processing. In this contribution, we describe the hybrid approach where a relational DBMS will be called from within an object-oriented DBMS application to speed up the processing of simply structured data. We show the main idea illustrated on example of a cooperation between OODBMS GemStone and RDBMS Sybase.
