U.S. Open Government initiative

Open government, a cornerstone of democracy, involves the active participation of the public and community engagement. It empowers the public to share ideas and expertise, informs government policies, and promotes collaboration across all levels of government. As a founding member of the Open Government Partnership, the United States is fully committed to the principles of open government. The partnership is a global organization that encourages governments to develop action plans and policies with public input and provides a framework to monitor progress and share best practices.

The U.S. Open Government Secretariat, established by GSA, collaborates with leads from the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Agency for International Development and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to guide our nation’s participation in the Open Government Partnership and strengthen public engagement.
