The Equal Pay Certification
Addressing unequal pay for work of equal value is fundamental to reaching gender equality at the workplace. Being aware of this, the NCPE developed an Equal Pay Tool to help organisations check equal pay for work of equal value between women and men. Equal pay for work of equal value covers not only cases where men and women do the same or similar work, but also where they do different work. When men and women perform work that is different in content, involving different responsibilities, requiring different skills or qualifications, and is performed under different conditions – but is overall of equal value – they should receive equal remuneration.
Equality Mark certified companies and public entities, employing at least 50 persons, are eligible to voluntarily apply for the Equal Pay Certification and to make use of the Equal Pay Tool. Equality Mark certified organisations that opt not to apply for the Equal Pay Tool will still retain their Equality Mark certification.
When applying to make use of the Tool, organisations will be required to complete an Excel workbook with data relating to their human resources. This data will be coded for anonymity. All data will be treated with strict confidentiality by the NCPE.
Besides the provision of a Tool User Guide, the NCPE is available to assist the organisation in the process. Once finalised, inputted data will be analysed. The NCPE will then provide a confidential report with guidance on the equal pay situation within the organisation.
An Equal Pay Certification will be awarded when the Equal Pay Tool finds that there is a Low Risk of non-compliance with the equal pay principle. The certification will be valid for three years, during which the organisation can use the Equal Pay Certification logo in its adverts and other communications. Confidential assistance will be offered on request to those organisations which obtain a result that shows a Medium or High Risk of non-compliance with the equal pay principle, providing a deeper understanding of the pay situation within the organisation, including potential flaws and unintended discrepancies.
Interested Equality Mark certified organisations can apply for the Equal Pay Certification by contacting the NCPE indicating their wish to make use of the Equal Pay Tool.
