Just because Reik has spent most of the last two decades making chart-topping pop románticas like 2006’s “Invierno” doesn’t mean the Mexicali band can’t experiment and evolve. Ahora, their sixth studio album, finds them collaborating with reggaetón and Latin trap mainstays Ozuna, Maluma, and Wisin & Yandel—while tracks like “Me Niego” and “Duele” still hew toward lighter fare, they’re catchy, danceable tunes that prove the band can make songs for the club, too. Naturally, Reik don’t completely leave their romantic side behind. “Aunque No Deba,” a ballad with Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Tommy Torres, keeps the band well in touch with their lovey-dovey roots.
