Victory with i20 N Rally2 helps Kazaz make history in Turkey

Kerem Kazaz became the youngest ever winner of the Turkish Rally Championship title after a fine victory at the Istanbul Rallisi (November 2-3) to finish the season.

The win completed a superb run of results for the 18-year-old with the Hyundai i20 N Rally2 through the latter part of the season after switching to the car. He scored runner-up finishes in his first two starts in the series with the machine – only just missing out on victory on both occasions – to put him in the championship lead before the season finale.

Despite holding the advantage, Kazaz and his French co-driver Corentin Silvestre still needed to beat their closest rivals at the final round to confirm the championship win for the driver, who started the year with a different man reading his pacenotes. Through the opening day the leading crews exchanged time and positions, before Kazaz and Silvestre claimed the top spot on the final stage before the overnight halt when the scored their second fastest time of the event.

The gaps remained tight across the four stages of the closing day, but the i20 N Rally2 duo held on for Kazaz’s second win of the season, helped by a third stage win. Overall he won the rally by ten seconds, with the four bonus points from the power stage helping him add to his margin at top of the final standings, to finish 27 points ahead of his nearest challenger.

Zaldivar scores first win of Paraguayan national season

The Automotor Rally Team-run duo of Fabrizio Zaldivar and Marcelo der Ohannesian scored their first win of the Paraguayan Rally Championship at Rally de Caaguazú (November 1-3).

It took a final loop surge where they won all three stages to lift them clear in a tight battle for the podium places.

They left the final service, bound for SS11 in third place, ten seconds off the lead. A first stage win closed up their gap to the top three. SS12 victory brought Zaldivar and der Ohannesian to the front for the first time. However, with the leading trio of crews now split by only a second it was all to play for on the final stage.

There, Zaldivar and der Ohannesian once again set the fastest time to win overall by four seconds, while the crew that had started the stage second faltered on the last test as they tried to match the pace of the Hyundai duo.

The performance lifted the duo to second in the standings, with one round remaining on the calendar this year.

The crew’s focus now switches to the final round of the FIA CODASUR Rally Championship, where they hold the lead of the championship as they aim to defend the title they won in 2023.
