Welcome
Welcome to the September IPCC Working Group III (WG III) newsletter. This continues to be a difficult time for many around the world and the WG III TSU wishes you well. This edition includes information about new dates for the Expert and Government Review of WG III's contribution to the 6th Assessment Report, as well as WG III's fourth Lead Author Meeting. In August, an IPCC press release announced the postponement after an internal WG III consultation. This is covered below, alongside further information about the implications of this schedule change to the literature cut-off date.
Next month, WG III will continue engaging virtually, hosting an event with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) for business leaders on 'Climate Science and Institutional Policy'. The event will welcome speakers from IPCC (such as Vice-Chair Thelma Krug) and the ICC (such as Rob Cameron, Global Head of Public Affairs at Nestle). Further information and a link to register are below.
Finally, WG III experts, bureau members, and TSU staff continue to speak and deliver outreach virtually, much of which is still available to watch and listen to online after the event is over. Check below for a webinar, podcast, article, or roundtable that may pique your interest. Remember, if you'd like to share this newsletter with friends, colleagues or your social network you can use this link.

WG III releases new schedule, postpones fourth Lead Author Meeting
Working Group III (WG III) has updated the schedule for its contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) and postponed its final Lead Author Meeting for AR6, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to delay scientific work.
The postponement, and other changes to the WG III schedule, now means that the report will not be approved before the Glasgow Climate Change Conference, known as COP26, which has itself been postponed to November 2021. WG III’s Fourth Lead Author Meeting is now scheduled to take place for five days between 12 and 30 April 2021.
The cut-off date for submission of scientific literature for publication, to be included in the assessment has moved to 14 December 2020, and the government and expert review of the report’s Second Order Draft and first draft of its Summary for Policymakers has moved to the period between 18 January and 14 March 2021.
An internal consultation by WG III found that authors and experts are facing substantial challenges to their working conditions because of the pandemic. In a related press release, Priyadarshi Shukla, Co-Chair of WG III said that “We are very grateful to our authors who are continuing to work on the report despite these challenging conditions,”
