Meet-The-Author: Rachel Heng of Suicide Club

US-based Singaporean novelist Rachel Heng made her maiden appearance at our Main Store on Saturday, 4th August 2018, to promote her debut novel Suicide Club! Joining her to moderate the event was her friend and local singer-songwriter Charlie Lim.

The session was conducted in a question-&-answer style, and because both Rachel and Charlie were already friends, their conversation was candid and Rachel seemed comfortable speaking to the crowd.

The session was engaging as Rachel shared insights about how she realized people were trying to pursue a lifestyle of wellness and healthy living, which ultimately led her to write Suicide Club.

Besides reading from the book, she also shared how she coped with writing the book while still working in the corporate world, as well as the writing course she took with Faber Academy. Rachel also revealed that she was writing her next book and the story will be set in Singapore, much to the delight of those in the audience.

The event was attended by Rachel’s family and friends, as well as customers – mainly locals – who had already read her book and wanted to get the copies signed by her. Several customers also stopped by at the events area as they seemed drawn by the provocative title and eye catching book cover image. Many customers who attended the event stayed on to catch up with Rachel and take photos with her.

It was a great event and everyone had an enjoyable time. We look forward to having Rachel at our bookstore again for her next book!
