Yea its a game design choice, I choose to make it a bit dark for the atmosphere. And to use the few lights you can turn on and off around the house. I made sure to keep some lights all over to not make it complete dark. But I will see if its becoming a complaint from more. Thanks for the comments.
I tried if I could get stuck but I can't. if you enter the room, theres a trigger box that will start a short countdown to loading next level which then will open the door automatically.

Once you get in there, its suppose to lock the door and then after a short while transition to next level, where it automatically opens the door after a few seconds.

Hey there, You should look into some collisions etc. I could not leave the living room when the knocking started. I tried a lot of stuff and ended up being pushed out of the map by a door :)
I am sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience with the chase part of the game. Most playthroughs I've watched seemed to be able to make it out, so i just figured they were alright. But I have of course not watched em all. I my self hate when a game is frustrating and that is not at all my intention.
I had it on English, but the tapes were not. Rest seemed to be. Maybe 1 or 2 messages from the crew were not translated. But overall most was in english.
