Reliable Identity Risk Scoring!
This check is performed at no additional cost when a user account is created and is based on the Address, Given Name, Family Name, and Zip Code provided. Including an address in the user profile contributes to a lower risk score.
Risk Score is a tool designed to verify whether the input data for a specific user corresponds to an identity in our proprietary identity graph. Based on the degree of match (or the lack thereof), it provides a risk score.
Risk Score integrates with our real-time identity graph, which spans digital and terrestrial ecosystems. This integration provides insights into the connections between personal and professional identities.
Data Inputs Accepted by Risk Score
The Risk Score can process and return the following types of input data:
- Name
- Address
- Phone
Based on the information provided in the user object, Risk Score evaluates how well the data matches against our identity graph. In addition to determining match characteristics, Score Inputs assigns a risk score. This score acts as an indicator of potential friction that might be necessary in subsequent processes.
Scoring System
When utilizing the Risk Score feature of Authenticate®, our systems provide a comprehensive risk score ranging from 0% to 100%. This risk score is designed to help you make informed decisions by indicating the potential risk level associated with a user. The scoring system is straightforward:
- 0% to 33% - Low Risk: Scores within this range signify a lower level of risk. Users falling into this category are generally considered safe, with minimal concerns.
- 34% to 66%—Moderate Risk: Scores in this range indicate a moderate level of risk. Users may require further scrutiny or verification to ensure compliance and safety.
- 67% to 99% - High Risk: Scores within this range highlight a higher level of risk. Users identified with high risk may need extensive checks and careful consideration before proceeding with any transactions or engagements.
Output Categories and Descriptions
The direct output from the information provided can be categorized as follows:
Match Type | Description |
Tangled | Indicates a match with an input belonging to a different individual with no identifiable relationship. This generally signals a higher fraud risk, and additional measures may be necessary. |
Household | Represents a match with an input field belonging to another person within the same household (e.g., spouse, young adult). This usually does not indicate a fraud risk, but some verification level might be required. |
Self | This confirms a match with an input field directly belonging to the person in question. Outputs categorized as 'self' must share metadata within our identity graph, a critical reference point for all related data. |
Unknown | This is used when there is insufficient information to categorize the match. It may or may not indicate a fraud risk, and further analysis might be necessary. |
Risk | The risk score numerically represents the potential risk associated with the inputs. It is calculated based on specific factors tied to email activity, including when the email was first and last seen, the number of data sources, and observations. A risk score approaching 100% indicates a higher risk associated with the inputs and the individual. |
Best Practice Recommendation
Authenticate® strongly recommends that organizations implement both Authoritative Database Checks and Risk Insights Verification as part of their security protocols. We also recommend that you run the Risk Score check again if the user's Personally Identifiable Information (PII) has been updated to verify that the new information is trustworthy.
