Government ID Verification

Secure ID Verification with Global Coverage and Multi-Step Validation

To learn how ID Verification is different from Identity Verification, click here.

Authenticate's advanced ID verification technology is designed to ensure high security and trust by accurately validating one-sided/two-sided IDs with 6,500+ Passports & IDs Worldwide and Instant forensic analysis of 6,500+ government IDs from 200 countries in 38 languages. This system is crucial for businesses and organizations requiring reliable confirmation of user identities.

The Process

Image Capture and Submission:

  • Users must capture a clear image of both the front and (if required) the back of the ID.
  • Use a minimum 5-megapixel camera for image capture.
  • Ensure images are free from blur, glare, shadow, or reflections.
  • Use a solid-colored background to ensure contrast between the ID and its surroundings.
  • Ensure all edges of the ID are visible without any cutoff.
  • Submit images in JPEG or PNG format, with a maximum size of 2MB per image.

Scanning and Verification:

  • The front of the ID is scanned using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to extract alphanumeric text, including personal details and photos.
  • The back of the ID, typically containing a barcode (e.g., PDF 417), is decoded to match the data from the front of the ID.
  • Our Systems perform a barcode template check to ensure it meets AAMVA standards.
  • The system processes these images asynchronously for thorough verification.
  • The OCR data is compared with the barcode data to ensure accuracy.

The Result

Once an ID has been processed through our verification systems, it is assigned a confidence rating out of 99. This rating quantifies the authenticity of the ID based on the data extracted and verified against known standards. A confidence rating of 75 or higher is sufficient for the ID to be considered authentic. Ratings above this threshold indicate a high level of confidence in the accuracy and integrity of the ID, suggesting that it meets all the necessary verification criteria set by our system. IDs scoring below this threshold may require additional review or are considered less reliable. Users can also download results by clicking the "Generate Report" button.

Best Practice Recommendation

Authenticate® strongly recommends that organizations implement both Authoritative Database Checks and Government ID Verification as part of their security protocols. This combined approach confirms the validity of an individual's government-issued ID and verifies their public history, adding a layer of extra security.

Authenticate® has built out a state-of-the-art web application called Medallion™ that incorporates all of the best practices mentioned above and provides the user with a streamlined, easy-to-use experience. You can learn more about Medallion here.
