Aizome (indigo dyeing) experience

Experience and learn about our fascinating organic aizome culture while admiring the stunning sky and ocean of Kaiyo. Our indigo dye is created with organic “sukumo” (fermented ai or Japanese indigo plant leaves) made in the town of Kamiita (Tokushima prefecture), Japan’s leading production site of ai. We use the centuries-old lye-fermentation method, which involves combining naturally sourced ingredients such as wood and shellfish ash, wheat bran and sake with sukumo, in order to activate microorganisms and the fermentation process.
