  • What is the Joint Usage/Research Center for Radiation Disaster Medical Science?

    It is a network-type joint usage/research center established by three institutes: the Research Institute for Radiation Biology and Medicine at Hiroshima University (which acts as the central base), the Atomic Bomb Disease Institute at Nagasaki University, the Fukushima Global Medical Science Center at Fukushima Medical University. Their combined mission is to cope with the academic demand responding to the Fukushima Daiich Nuclear Power Plant Accident.
    The principal research areas are as follows:

    1. Systematic elucidation of the mechanism of cell injury or outbreak of diseases caused by radiation
    2. Development of methods for innovative medical relief from post –radiation hazards such as acute radiation syndrome and malignancy.
    3. Development of risk control methods based on fieldwork in radiation-affected areas, in order to reduce the disaster impact

  • What is the project research topic responding to Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Accident?

    It is the project topic set up for responding to the Fukushima Daiich Nuclear Power Plant Accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake, which occurred in March, 2011, and consists of four essential topics mentioned in the information of application procedure.

  • What is the emphasis project topic?

    It is specifically important topic selected for promoting research on radiation, and consists of six essential topics mentioned in the information of application procedure.

  • How to apply?

    You may click Download the application forms on the homepage of the Research Center for Radiation Disaster Medical Science and apply through Open call for application.

  • Is it possible to apply for multiple years?

    One can apply for multiple years, but application for ‘continuation’ is required on a year-to-year basis.

  • What kind of thing is the research organization like?

    It is a research organization that includes joint researchers and resident researchers (faculties belonging to the three institutions will be engage in this matter).

  • Can researchers not mentioned in the application form participate in joint research as members of the research organization?

    No. Researchers not mentioned in the application form cannot participate in the joint research. When a researcher is to be added for the joint research, prior notification (and approval) should be required.

  • Can one research representative apply for multiple joint research projects?

    Yes. It is possible.

  • Is it possible to apply for multiple research-topic items in one joint research?

    No, it is not. You may select one research topic item only including “open topic”.

  • Is it possible to apply for one joint research title by selecting multiple resident researchers?

    Yes, you can fill-in the name of resident researcher (representative), and the remaining resident researchers in the column of 2and 3.

  • How to apply from abroad?

    You may apply through the English edition version of the home page: Joint Usage/Research Center for Radiation Disaster Medical Science.

  • Who should create a letter of approval from the affiliated institution? What procedure is followed by the affiliated institution in case the affiliated institution has changed from the one at the time of application?

    It would be created by a person (president, head of department, or person of similar rank) designated by each institution. When there is a change in the affiliated institution, please re-submit the approval letter from the chair of the new affiliated organization.

  • How about the flow from the beginning to the completion of joint research?

    After notification of adoption, joint research with the resident researchers is started. On completion of the research term, a research result report is to be submitted.

  • How to add the joint researcher(s) after starting the joint research? What to do when the affiliation or contact address of a representative joint researcher changes?

    You may send Revision Report (Form 4) to the head office of the center(housai@hiroshima-u.ac.jp
