How to enjoy HISTORICA|京都ヒストリカ国際映画祭

How to enjoy HISTORICA

HISTORICA has constantly delivered international history films to the audience of Kyoto.
On our 16th year, we have created a program titled “The Fights of the Have-Nots”.
Various films differing in scope and scale are shown on the same screen, and characters representing the have-nots, both new and old, vie with one another in the festival venue.
Additionally, we will once again hold our popular talk shows centered around cinema.
Please enjoy the six-day festival where you can immerse yourself in history films from morning to night.

Theater screening

From the super-large-scale Hollywood production to the time-travelling samurai story that is the talk of the Internet, we present you 18 films including Japan premieres.

SHŌGUN, the mind-blowing Sengoku-era spectacle drama. A Samurai in Time, the story of an Aizu samurai who suddenly finds himself in the 21st century. And HISTORICA WORLD, our curated program of gems from across the globe. These are just a few examples from the selection of films depicting the “have-nots” in various ways – we hope you enjoy what we have to offer.

The Museum of Kyoto has large tatami rooms on the sixth floor. During the festival, the rooms will be split into three zones – “Talk”, “Exhibition”, and “Screening” – where lectures by top creators, talk events by government officials, showcases and screenings by local contents businesses and young filmmakers will take place.

HISTORICA at Night

Online talk show: HISTORICA at Night

Every night, we invite a cineaste and chat freely about jidaigeki and history films. The YouTube streams are archived and available for your entertainment anytime!
