Took a long vacation
No make-up, just JAY-Z
You were balls-deep, now we beefin'
Had me butt-naked at the MGM
So wasted, screamin', "Fuck that"
Blurry now, but I meant it then
Hurry now, baby, stick it in
'Fore the memories get to kickin' in
[Pre-Chorus]
It's too late, I don't wanna lose
[Chorus]
What's left of you
How am I supposed to tell you
I don't wanna see you with anyone but me?
Nobody gets me like you
How am I supposed to let you go?
Only like myself when I'm with you
Nobody gets me, you do (Do)
You do
Nobody gets me, you do (Do)
You do
Nobody gets me, you do
You do
Nobody gets me, you do
Took me out to the ballet
You proposеd, I went on the road
You was feelin' empty so you lеft me
Now I'm stuck dealin' with a deadbeat
If I'm real, I deserve less
If I was you, I wouldn't take me back
I pretend when I'm with a man it's you
[Pre-Chorus]
And I know that it's too late, I don't wanna lose
[Chorus]
What's left of you
How am I supposed to tell you
I don't wanna see you with anyone but me?
Nobody gets me like you
How am I supposed to let you go?
Only like myself when I'm with you
Nobody gets me, you do (Do)
You do
Nobody gets me, you do (Do)
You do
Nobody gets me, you do (Do)
[Outro]
You do
Nobody gets me, you do (Do)
Nobody gets me, you do
About
“Nobody Gets Me” is a break-up ballad that encapsulates SZA’s feelings through the last moments of her relationship with her ex-fiancé, who was the only person at the time that she felt truly understood her— SZA told HOT 97.
The guitar-driven melody of the song is characterized by a languid tempo that helps to establish a contemplative mood. SZA masterfully employs her vocal abilities to evoke a sense of melancholy and nostalgia, which are common emotional states experienced after a breakup. The carefully crafted lyrics of the chorus effectively convey the artist’s despair and reluctance to let go of her past relationship. By accentuating certain words in the chorus, SZA underscores the sense of helplessness and desperation that often accompanies heartbreak
The song may act as a thematic callback to some of her songs on the album such as, “Shirt” and “Blind,” which explore the inner struggles that may be encountered in a toxic relationship.
It’s also worth quoting that the song served as a promotional single for SZA’s sophomore album, SOS. She teased the song uploading a 30-second snippet of it four days before the project was out and a music video was released the same day as the album on December 9th, 2022.

This particular song in entirety is a story about my ex-fiancé and how we went through all these arguments, and we broke up. And when we first broke up it was like terible, and I just felt like I was gonna be doomed to be in hell for the rest of my life because nobody understood me the way he did, and like nobody motivated me the way he did. And he was just, you know, this rock in my life that just no longer exists. And it’s just, like, it was insane. The stories that I tell in that song about our arguments, our specific arguments, like that’s kinda the–. That’s the theme on that. I feel like a lot of people don’t understand me but it’s okay.
“Nobody Gets Me” debuted at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the chart week ending of December 24, 2022.
