Zoho Voice is a virtual business phone system and part of a suite of professional products released by Zoho, a software development brand based in India. Zoho Voice is available across multiple service plans, all primarily aimed at small businesses. Features include ingoing and outgoing call capabilities, short message service (SMS), multilevel interactive voice response (IVR), dynamic call recording, and more. Separate tools like call monitoring, power dialer, and telephony agent upgrades are likewise available as add-ons.

In addition to a range of premium service tiers and add-ons, Zoho Voice is available for free. If you wish to test Zoho’s capabilities before signing up for a paid tier, you also have the option of a 15-day trial. We researched and tested Zoho Voice features to provide a detailed look into the pros and cons of signing up. Read on for more insight into this voice-over-internet-protocol (VoIP) service.

Pros

  • 15-day free trial available
  • Free credits available upon request
  • Several service plans are available, priced to suit the needs of a range of businesses
  • Integrate easily with other Zoho software products

Cons

  • Professional emails only, no Gmail accounts allowed
  • Pricing is sometimes done using credits, which can obscure anticipated costs
  • Integrations primarily focused on Zoho products; not much information is available for third-party integrations
Zoho Voice is best for small businesses that plan to purchase a specific number of monthly credits to cover the cost of related features, such as call monitoring or additional phone minutes. It also provides free and low-cost features that can help very small businesses drastically reduce the cost of setting up business communication. Moreover, if you already use other Zoho products, such as Zoho One, Zoho CRM, or Zoho Desk, you can use Zoho Telephony to integrate with these other products.
While Zoho Voice provides a broad enough range of plans and add-ons, some business owners might find the credit system very inconvenient compared to competitors, where one is provided a business number and uniform communication and contact center features without having incoming and outgoing calls metered in any way.  Professionals and solopreneurs who use Gmail for their logins will not be able to make calls with Zoho Voice. While account creation is possible, we were blocked and instructed to sign up and log in through a business email address.

As with the Business Phone plans, some features are only available as add-ons within certain plans; an upgrade might be necessary to use the feature outright. Other items may be geographically limited to customers within the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, or Australia. You should check the pricing page or contact the sales team for the most accurate information on plan tools and pricing.

Best Zoho Voice VoIP plan for small businesses: Team

The Team business phone plan provides the broadest range of useful business phone features at a per-user price that represents the best value for money. At $100 per month for up to 10 users with an annual agreement, that represents $10 per user in a team of 10. By comparison, the Contact Center plan costs $74 per month, per user, with a yearly subscription.

The Contact Center plan could be worth it if you have a small team of agents. However, if you are seeking to set up a professional business phone system with some contact-center-as-a-service (CCaaS) features but without this being central to your company’s communication needs, Team has the best range of calling and texting features for the associated price.

Pros

  • Decent value for money
  • 1,000 free outgoing minutes
  • Dial extensions directly
  • Integration support for desk phones and headsets

Cons

  • The plan could be too pricey for very small business teams
  • Some features are limited to users in the United States and Canada

Other services Zoho Voice offers

In addition to calling and texting, Zoho Voice also provides businesses with various tools useful for connecting agents or engaging customers, including contact center features. These items include:

  • Additional users: If you need to add more users to your plan, it costs $19 monthly per user with an annual contract.
  • Power dialer: If you don’t wish to upgrade for this feature, Zoho charges the equivalent of $10 per month per user.
  • Queue Performance Metrics: An analytic tool that lets you compare and contrast how agents handle each assigned queue. The feature is available for 10 credits or $10 per user monthly.
  • Voice pricing: If you need more than the allotted inbound and outbound minutes for your Enterprise Telephony plan, Zoho Voice lets you add minutes specific to your needs. Rates will vary by location.
  • Agent Privileges Upgrade: For 15 credits, or $15 per month, you can allow your agents to access Zoho Voice’s web user interface (UI), although feature access may vary according to your plan agreement.

The Zoho Voice platform and customer support

We found the process of signing up for Zoho Voice was relatively quick and simple. The dashboard is easy to navigate, with menu options easily located on the left side of the page. Users can use the Zoho Voice dashboard to keep track of everything from live calls to SMS. You can also create call queues and assign them to specific agents easily. Additionally, you can keep track of your available credits and also maintain an awareness of the specific time zones from which customers or workers are calling.

Zoho Voice provides customer support by email, web form, and phone; support phone contacts are based in the U.S. and the United Kingdom.

Is Zoho Voice secure?

Zoho states that its suite of products are all designed with security in mind. The company protects its products using vulnerability scanners, secure coding guidelines, and a manual review process. Zoho also created its framework based on Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP) standards. Its products are encrypted to protect them from unwanted third-party intrusion. Zoho Voice is itself specifically designed to be Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant.

Zoho Voice user reviews

There are currently a limited number of user reviews for Zoho Voice available online, due in large part to the fact that there are better-known and more popular cloud communication services available. What reviews we did find for Zoho Voice were mixed but skewed positive. Those satisfied with their Zoho Voice plans appreciated the pricing and the ability to integrate Zoho Voice with other Zoho software easily.

Unhappy customers found Zoho Voice to be “buggy,” and there were complaints of dropped calls and connection issues. While there is belief in Zoho Voice’s overall potential, some feel the service doesn’t measure up against rival cloud communication providers.

Is Zoho Voice right for you?

Zoho Voice could work for small businesses that want a flexible cloud private branch exchange (PBX) solution with several plan structures to choose from. It is ideal for businesses based in the U.S. and Canada, though it could work for those operating in the U.K. and Australia.

Although Zoho Voice provides a range of useful cloud communication tools, there are more stable and popular VoIP providers that aren’t as buggy and provide unlimited calling and texting features for lower prices. Its freeware could make it a good starting point for very small teams, but companies with an eye on future growth might prefer alternate VoIP services.
