“Protect, Empower, Thrive :Pioneering Women’s safety”
IEEE DAY 2024
On the 4th of October 2024, the VCET IEEE Student Branch organized “Protect, Empower, Thrive: Pioneering Women’s Safety” as part of IEEE WEEK 2024, focusing on the critical issue of women’s safety in today’s world. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 7 teams, eager to present their knowledge and innovative ideas on enhancing women’s safety through technology and social measures.
This competition provided a platform for participants to evaluate current safety measures, such as safety apps, public awareness campaigns, legal protections, and self-defense techniques, all while proposing improvements and original solutions. The goal was to empower participants to blend creativity with practical solutions, promoting the protection and empowerment of women.
The esteemed panel of judges for the event Dr. Sowmya N J, Chair of the College Internal Complaint Committee and faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering, along with Prof. Monica K. P. from the Department of AI & ML. Their extensive knowledge in social safety and technology ensured a fair and insightful evaluation of the participants' responses.
Here's a recap of the rules: Each team had 10 minutes to present their ideas followed by 2 minutes of Q&A, focusing on how their proposals addressed women’s safety and the impact and practicality of their solutions. The event emphasized not just existing safety measures but also welcomed fresh and innovative approaches, ensuring a forward-thinking conversation about empowering women and enhancing their security in society.
