IEEE Chandigarh University Student Branch organized a gala event, IEEE DAY 2024, on the 10th of October 2024 at D1 Auditorium and Fountain Park. 🌟

The event began at 9:00 AM with an insightful talk by our distinguished guest, Prof. (Dr.) Vinay Kumar Mittal, on the significance of data protection and cybersecurity. His engaging session set the tone for the day, making it both informative and interactive. Following this, Er. Sugandha Sharma, Branch Counsellor of IEEE CUSB and Dr. Ruchika Gupta, Chapter Advisor of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, delivered a session on the benefits of IEEE for students, emphasizing how IEEE supports members throughout their careers. The discussion continued with PVC Prof. (Dr.) Manpreet Singh Manna, who shared his journey within IEEE and how the platform influenced his career growth.

An interactive session with students followed, where the executive team of the IEEE Chandigarh University Student Branch was introduced. They committed to supporting students in gaining memberships and offering volunteer opportunities. The first half of the event concluded with the IEEE Star Awards, recognizing students for their contributions as IEEE volunteers. Awards and certificates were also presented to the winners of the IEEE Day pre-event competitions.

In the second half of the day, the celebration continued at Fountain Park starting at 3:30 PM. It featured cultural performances and a lucky draw where students won exciting prizes, including novels, tote bags, magazines, and AirPods. A cake-cutting ceremony commemorated the first global gathering of engineers in 1884, celebrating technical ideas. This marked the successful conclusion of IEEE DAY 2024.

Listed below are the IEEE DAY pre-events that commenced on 1st October 2024:

1. Achieve it All: Held on 1st October 2024, organized by IEEE Power and Energy Society CUSB and IEEE Computer Society CUSB. The session featured a discussion between Branch Counsellor Er. Sugandha Sharma and Chairperson of IEEE PES CUSB, Shivam Chopra, focusing on balancing academic and co-curricular activities. An awareness session was conducted for first-year students, introducing them to IEEE membership benefits.
2. National Education Program Talk: This event, organized by IEEE Consumer Technology Society CUSB, featured Garvit Nama, Secretary of IEEE CTSOC CUSB, on 2nd October 2024, with Er. Priyanka Tyagi as the guest speaker. The talk focused on understanding the National Education Policy 2020, attracting students and faculty members for insights into its impact on education.
3. Azure AI Influencer Day: Hosted on 3rd October 2024 by IEEE Computer Society CUSB, this event focused on the intersection of cloud computing and AI using Microsoft Azure. It included talks by industry experts like Manmeet Singh, Rajesh Panchal, Vinay Pratap, and Saket Kumar, covering topics from Azure’s architecture to ethical considerations in AI.
4. Code for Earth: The Code for Earth Ideathon was a two-round competition fostering environmental solutions. Organized by IEEE CUSB Computer Society, it began with PowerPoint presentations and culminated in live presentations. Finalists presented ideas on themes like sustainable resource management, and winners were recognized for their innovative contributions.
5. Mental Health Talk and Activity: Held in association with IEEE Photonics Society and IEEE Power and Energy Society, this event aimed to promote mental well-being. Dr. Babita Dosajh delivered an impactful session, providing strategies for stress management and creating a supportive environment for students.
6. Practical Techniques for Writing a Research Paper: This workshop, held by the IEEE Photonics Society at Chandigarh University on 4th October 2024, was led by Harsimran Singh Sodhi. It provided practical insights into writing, structuring, and presenting research papers, equipping students with skills to craft high-quality research.
7. Coffee Talks: Organized by the IEEE Computer Society CUSB on 5th October 2024, this session introduced commutative programming and its applications in parallel computing. It focused on leveraging commutative operations to enhance efficiency and scalability in distributed systems.
8. Poster Making Competition: Held on 8th October 2024, this competition was jointly organized by IEEE Consumer Technology Society and IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. Participants created posters on the theme of IEEE Day colors, blending creativity with IEEE’s values of innovation and diversity.
9. Treasure Hunt: Conducted by IEEE Consumer Technology Society (CTSoc) on 6th October 2024, the Treasure Hunt offered an engaging experience. Nandini, Vice Chairperson of IEEE CTSoc, hosted the event, which included three competitive rounds. Top 5 winners received AirPods for their teamwork and strategic thinking.
10. Focus on Nature: Through The Lens of Sustainability: This online photography competition, held from 1st to 8th October 2024 by IEEE Photonics Society, aimed to raise awareness of sustainability through photography. Participants submitted images aligned with the 17 SDGs, and winners were awarded a visit to TIFR Mumbai.
11. SDG Visionaries Ideathon: Held on 9th October 2024, this event focused on innovative solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With 25 teams participating, students collaborated to address global challenges. The winning team was awarded an opportunity to visit TIFR Mumbai, recognizing their innovative ideas.
