This word is nowadays nearly always used only in reference to the official name of the Republic of Poland, Rzeczpospolita Polska. Other uses include mostly names of historical polities, e.g. Rzeczpospolita Obojga Narodów or Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa. Other republics are called republika in Polish.

It may be declined either as two separate words or as one word with adjectival declension.
