Tamron will release the 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (Model A063) (hereinafter referred to as the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 G2), a large-diameter standard zoom lens, built for Nikon Z mount compatible with full-frame mirrorless single-lens cameras. This lens will be released on April 18th. Estimated retail price is $945, subject to fees and taxes.
The 28-75mm F2.8 G2 is compact and easy to use, yet has excellent rendering performance, and is compatible with the latest digital cameras with increasingly high pixel resolution. The AF drive uses a linear motor focus mechanism VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive), which is fast, highly accurate, and quiet. It also excels in close-up photography, achieving a minimum shooting distance of 0.18m at the wide-angle end and a maximum shooting magnification of 1:2.7. Furthermore, the lens has been designed with ease of use in mind, including a coating with excellent scratch resistance and a rubber ring with excellent grip.
The 28-75mm F2.8 G2 is now available for the Nikon Z mount for the first time. The Nikon Z mount is known as the pioneer of “compact large-diameter standard zoom.” Tamron aims to make this lens an indispensable all-purpose use lens for Nikon full-frame mirrorless cameras.
■ Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 G2 for Nikon Z mount Product features
High-performance lens with sharp descriptive power
The lens configuration is 17 elements in 15 groups. By arranging two LD (Low Dispersion) lenses and two aspherical lenses made of special glass material in optimal locations, we minimize the occurrence of various aberrations. Extremely high resolution performance can be obtained from wide open aperture to every corner of the screen over the entire zoom range. In addition, the suppressed bokeh and the soft bokeh that can only be achieved with a large aperture are attractive. It has a compact size and high performance that can be used in combination with top-class high-pixel digital cameras.
High-speed, high-precision autofocus
The linear motor focus mechanism VXD is used for the autofocus drive. The high-speed, high-precision AF has excellent responsiveness to the photographer’s intentions, allowing stress-free and comfortable focusing from the shortest focusing distance to infinity, even with large-diameter lenses. It also has excellent focus tracking ability for moving objects, allowing users to capture the moment without missing a beat. In addition, the motor drive noise is minimal and the camera is extremely quiet, making it ideal for still image shooting and video shooting in quiet environments.
Light and compact lens body
The Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 G2 for Nikon Z mount has a compact body that weighs 550 grams and is 119.8mm long, making it easy to carry out in any situation. The combination with the Nikon cameras is designed to be smart and easy to use, even when shooting for long periods of time, whether indoors or outdoors.
Achieves a minimum shooting distance of 0.18m and a maximum shooting magnification of 1:2.7.
The shortest shooting distance at the wide-angle end is 0.18m. By getting closer to the subject, users can capture a powerful shot that emphasizes the sense of perspective that is unique to wide-angle lenses. The working distance at this time is approximately 4.4cm. The maximum shooting magnification is 1:2.7. Photographers can enjoy wide macro photography as close to the subject as desired, without worrying about shooting distance.
Compatible with TAMRON Lens Utility
TAMRON Lens Utility proprietary software can be used. TAMRON Lens Utility not only allows creators to easily update to the latest firmware without using the camera, but it also has functions that support focusing operations when shooting still images and videos. Simply set the distance between two points to focus on and the movement time in advance and click the focus set button to select “AB focus,” which moves the focus from subject to subject, or “linear” focus movement during MF. By making use of various functions, such as being able to select “non-linear” mode, the range of expression in still images and videos can be expanded.
Functional Lens Design
Every detail of each part that makes up the lens has been reviewed to create a design that takes operability and texture into consideration. The exterior of the lens uses a glossy black coating with increased gloss. This lens is designed with improved scratch resistance, making it less prone to scratches and making fingerprints less noticeable. The grip performance of the ring rubber has also been improved. Every detail, including the brand ring that creates a classy presence, is designed with a focus on functional beauty.
Drip-Proof Construction and Durable Lens Surface
By applying a highly water- and oil-repellent coating to the front lens, dirt adhering to the lens surface can be easily wiped off. It also has excellent durability, so its effects last for a long time. Tamron’s industrial lens manufacturing know-how was utilized in the development of this coating.
