Animal health themes
With increasingly global movements of people, animals and foodstuffs, a health event can represent a threat to public health, with world-scale consequences on the economy, environment and societies.
Animal health topics are addressed in terms of individual, collective and population preventive and curative medicine.
The concept “A Global One Health” is used as it reflects the interdependence and global nature of health for humans, animals, plants and the environment.
Early detection of diseases and infections at their animal source can prevent them from being transmitted to humans or pathogens or from being introduced into the food chain. The question of good treatment practices to avoid environmental contamination is another aspect dealt with under eco-toxicology.
A shared, sustainable approach requires an integrated risk analysis, with contributions from sundry areas of knowledge, thereby placing agricultural and veterinary training and research at the heart of complex issues.
