With this contribution, the quantification of verbal knowledge is being discussed. This quantification is particularly necessary in composite structural design, as mechanical, economical and technical aspects are strongly intertwined. Hence, modelling technical and economical aspects becomes relevant in context of structural design optimization of composites. With this paper, the decision on whether to utilize machine learning or fuzzy inference systems is clarified in case complex composite manufacturing techniques such as braiding are in light.
