Abstract
In this paper, a method to recover and reconstruct skin color from images over or under-exposed to scene illumination is proposed. Over-exposure is a normal and serious problem in computer vision ,photography etc especially in images taken under direct sunlight or when extra illumination is added to a scene especially when a camera’s flash is used. In addition, in scenes with insufficient illumination, under-exposure is prevalent. The skin color regions most susceptible to over-exposure include areas around the forehead, tip of the nose and the cheeks. This method uses a feed-forward neural network and a distance measure method to learn and construct the skin color face image map. The color distance measure method used is the Cylindrical Metric method (CMM). The relationships between neighboring pixels skin color distance and their relative position in a face are learned using the neural network. This information is then used to reconstruct over or under-exposed skin color regions.
