Abstract

As the digital age is rapidly developing, people’s requirements for design also have higher and higher cultural connotations. It is necessary and feasible to use emerging digital media technology to innovate the traditional culture and art. This paper introduces the participatory design concept into the digitalization of traditional culture. Based on the research of the application of digitalization of traditional culture, the artistic value of traditional culture is revitalized through digital technology and media, allowing more people to participate in the protection and inheritance of traditional culture. By involving users in the design process, emotional resonance is caused, and a digital protection system that meets user needs and local characteristics is jointly built, which shows and brings out the characteristics and advantages of traditional culture, while also satisfying the emotional needs of the audience. This not only has artistic research value but also has important significance for the historical value and cultural value of traditional culture inheritance and development.

This article studies the concepts of digitalization of traditional culture and participatory design, finds opportunities for the combination of the two, and investigates the application of participatory design in digitalization of traditional culture. By analyzing the participation methods and design strategies of participatory design in digitalization of traditional culture, it proposes a method for stakeholders’ participation in design and uses this method to design an interactive design application for Yangzhen Dragon Lantern Festival, verifying the feasibility of the method. It also argues the importance of this method and opens up new paths for the inheritance and development of the Yangzhen Dragon Lantern Festival.
